It is an extraordinary affair that is becoming larger, longer, more complex, and yes, more frustrating, but in the end you can't say no. If you are in either the business end or the enthusiast end of the car hobby, or anywhere in between, all roads lead to Monterey in August. It was an exhilarating week of activity, as you can well imagine, and only if you have been there and tried to do everything, can you really imagine the sheer impossibility of it all.

Although the cool and unpromising weather conditions detracted some entrants from attending, the turnout was still good, despite constant showers and strong winds on the first day giving attendees a wet and wild ride on the track. The raison d'être of the meeting is to provide participants with plenty of track time to exercise their "Cavallino Rampante" along with some high performance cars or other makes.

From the beginning of its history, the Scuderia Ferrari has always participated in Formula Two races whenever they were run, and it obtained many successes there. In 1967, because of favorable conditions, the opportunity was again presented to Ferrari to participate once more. The rules of the Formula Two European Championship has been changed, and now the engines could have up to six cylinders, and a displacement of between 1.3 and 1.6 litres.

Since I was the first person to driver the 1967 Dino Formula 2 car, I suppose that a few words from me are relevant to this article. In 1966, I drove in F3 for the small, Rome based constructor, De Sanctis, and we had a very successful season. They pampered me, did anything I asked, Rome was still a beautiful city, and I was happy. Then, Enzo Ferrari summoned me to Maranello, on a Sunday, and I signed a contract to driver the F2 car and probably some sports cars in 1967.

The Ferrari 250 MM Pinin Farina Berlinetta, s/n 0338 MM

The 250 MM model owes its name to the victory of Giovanni Bracco and Alfonso Rolfo in a Vignale bodied Ferrari 250 Sport berlinetta, fitted with a new Colombo designed three liter V-12 engine, ni the 1952 Mille Miglia race. The new three liter sports competition model for the 1953 season was fitted with this type of engine, and was baptized with the suffix "MM" in its model title, in celebration of the engine's victory in its first competition appearance; thus the 250 MM was born.

Marshall Buck specializes in beautiful hand built models, but occasionally issues some limited editions. This is unique - a sculpture of a shape we know so well, instead of an actual model. This "barchetta" design is imbued with so much history of its own that is can truly stand on its own.

In the ancient times before micro chips, computers and drive-by-wire gadgetry, Ferrari used a variety of "Bowden cables" to transmit motion from one location to another. The examples that come to mind on the 250 series cars are the speedometer and tachometer cables, the control for the radiator blind and the throttle cable, the choke, and the cable that activated the hot water valve for the heater.

Plus the market as of October 1, 2007... from a survey of selected dealers
Yes, the Monterey auctions proved that the Ferrari market is strong and growing, for most model types. The recent financial meltdown saw all types of investments get hit - real estate, equities, bonds, etc. There was no safe place to move your assets ... except commodities and collectibles. The first sign of a booming Ferrari market has came in the spring, when everyone was who wise to get out of real estate did so, and put their money into hard assets.
